question

What modulates our Sun? The majority of science work on the principle that the Sun is self modulating and each solar cycle is a product of a random number generator. There are others that suspect the Sun is modulated by the planets with a special emphasis on Jupiter. Thanks to Carl Smith who has recently left us we have new knowledge that significantly adds to Jose's and Landscheidt's work.

NOVEMBER NEWS:

2009/11/06 19:21 During sunspot 1030 the SOHO continuum images were offline. On the return of SOHO the archives displayed one continuum picture for each day 5th, 6th and 7th. This is enough data to confirm that 1030 did not make the Layman's Count.

2009/11/09 14:24  Sunspot 1030 re emerges but sadly not for long enough. It reached 35 pixels but only lasted a few hours before falling to below 19 pixels within 24 hours.
 non counter?non counter?
2009/11/13 16:00 NOAA decide not to count this area, is it because it is reverse polarity? A group like this would normally make their grade. There is no consistency.

2009/11/16 16:00 1031 numbered by NOAA continues to fluctuate between 9 & 11 pixels. Once again no consistency. Perhaps they know something and this one will grow???

2009/11/19 07:46  The big expected arrival of 1029 did not produce (so far) any major sunspot activity. 1033 in fact is a new region trailing just behind that is stealing the show. 1033 curently exceeds the Laymans count minimum but the 24 hour period is not completed. Lots of other speck activity, but no real show of strength.

2009/11/19 07:46  This is 1029 reborn (1032), perhaps weaker than expected, unlikely to make the grade. The Layman's count will be busy this month weeding the rubbish....the Nov pics so far tell the story.

Many thanks go to Carl's brother Dave for providing the Domain, Server and Software.
