question

What modulates our Sun? The majority of science work on the principle that the Sun is self modulating and each solar cycle is a product of a random number generator. There are others that suspect the Sun is modulated by the planets with a special emphasis on Jupiter. Thanks to Carl Smith who has recently left us we have new knowledge that significantly adds to Jose's and Landscheidt's work.

Just wondering if you are taking into account the distortion caused by image project of 3D onto 2D in your pixel measurements. If not your sizes are more then likely under reported, the further from 0*, 0* (center of solar image) the more the distortion impacts the visual image. 3D trig will need to be used to compensate for the distortion, no I do remember the proper formulas to make the adjustment.

Re Pixel Size

A good question. This was something that came up in the early days, the SOHO image is flattened to some degree and also uses techniques to reduce limb darkening (which hopefully is still coming with the SDO images). The spot area has always been reported as it is actually viewed with the natural distortions in place. To override this would cause an over statement of the current and historical record.
